MOVIE DEVELOPMENT
Beginnings of Google
It all began with an argument and a whimsical “I’m Feeling Lucky” button. When he first met Larry Page in the summer of 1995, Sergey Brin was a second-year grad student in the computer science department at Stanford University.
Gregarious by nature, Brin had volunteered as a guide of sorts for potential first-years – students who had been admitted, but were still deciding whether to attend. His duties included showing recruits the campus and leading a tour of nearby San Francisco. Page, an engineering major from the University of Michigan, surreptitiously ended up in Brin’s group.
Once upon a time it started up with a mistaken name for Googol which was written as GOOGLE on the $100 thousand dollar founding company investment check.
For some reason the check was supposed to read Googol. What is it?
A huge representational number in computing of the data age internet
signifying the POWER of storage and memory.
Well the “Big Idea” failed to produce a monetizeable solution. In a critical moment they panic and try to sell the fledgling company haphazardly named GOOGLE.
Then after a rational moment of pure calculation they realized the possibility of a web page tab and search process with a “secret” novelty feature called “I’m feeling Lucky”.
Instantly, Sergey the graduate and Larry the greying yearling decided to begin a SEARCH ENGINE together with borrowed Stanford University Super Computers. In a flash of inspirational hubris they decided that they would collate the data of the information age. After hitting a massive search -to -profit snag the unusual quirky partners decided to sell the novelty of an oddly named quagmire of a campus computer sustained company.
Now formally and mistakenly named Google they offer to sell out to venture capitalist Vinod Khosla for the sum of $350 Thousand Dollars. Then, an hour after they send an an email to accept the offer -they are met with the diss-appointment of NO REPLY.
In the hour of their mindfulness and reflection they review their problem solving ‘search engine’ and decide to become the future of the “big idea” and the leading minds of a new culture of the information age ————
called the Internet.
FYI *A googol is 10 to the 100th power (which is 1 followed by 100 zeros). A googol is larger than the number of elementary particles in the universe, which amount to only 10 to the 80th power.
